Hotel Cortina Rome

I very rarely leave negative reviews, but this time I simply cannot hold back because I want to warn other travelers.

The hotel is located in a convenient area for visiting Rome, but beyond that it fails to meet even basic accommodation standards.

The floors were so dirty that long black hairs were sticking to my child’s feet. Nobody in our family has hair like that, which clearly showed that the room had not been properly cleaned.

The leaking toilet flush, which I had already read about in previous reviews and assumed had been fixed by now, ran all night long, creating constant noise that made it difficult to sleep. When I reported it at check-out, instead of receiving any form of apology or compensation, I was told that I should have called the reception of the partner hotel during the night and requested a repair. Apparently, I was expected to do this while my small child was asleep in the room and I was in my pajamas. The response felt as though the problem was somehow my fault.

The air conditioning worked only when it felt like it. It was difficult to tell whether it was functioning at all because it either made a lot of noise or the room remained hot. When turned on, you could see a thick layer of dust inside the vent, meaning you either breathe in dust or choose the noise and exhaust fumes coming from the busy street outside.

The worst part, however, was the bedding. Instead of standard duvet covers, the duvet was simply placed between two sheets, allowing a dirty, almost black blanket to constantly peek through. This is completely unacceptable. I have never seen anything like this anywhere in the world, especially not at a price of nearly €300 per night.

I would never stay here again. There is no excuse or justification for such poor standards. It shows a complete lack of respect for guests.

I should also mention that breakfast is served in a neighboring hotel. The coffee from the machine was awful, which feels particularly disappointing in Italy, and the guest restroom there looked as though it had not been renovated for decades.

It is sad that you come to Rome hoping to create wonderful memories and end up remembering things like this instead. I can tolerate a lot while traveling, but dirty blankets sticking out of the bedding are simply beyond acceptable.

To make matters worse, the bathroom did not even provide shower caps, making it difficult for women to take a quick shower without getting their hair wet. The only practical option was taking a bath, which is hardly convenient when you need to get up very early for sightseeing.

Overall, a very strange and disappointing experience. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Hotel Cortina was a decent option for a 2-night stay in Rome. The room was small, which was expected, but the bathroom cleanliness fell short—particularly the shower, which appeared unclean and had visible mildew, and there was hair left on the toilet.

On a positive note, the reception staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The location was also a highlight, about a 15–20 minute walk from many of the major attractions, which made getting around very convenient.

I probably wouldn’t stay here again, but it’s not a bad option if you’re looking for a budget-friendly place just to sleep.
