Forum Romanum

The Forum Romanum or the Roman Forum used to be a place where ancient Romans gather for religious and political activities. Much of its ruins used to be buried underground and only in the 20th century did excavations for the Forum take place. In the area, the temples of Saturn, Venus, Romulus, and Vesta are found. Further, it has access to the Via Sacra, an ancient Roman street that connected the Piazza del Campidoglio and the Colosseum; the Arch of Titus, a commemoration of Rome’s triumph over Jerusalem; and the Column of Phocas, built in honor of the Byzantine emperor.
